ARTIST STATEMENT

My work explores the lines of nature and the beauty of flowers. With inspiration from hikes in the mountains or walks within neighborhoods, color, texture, and forms create simple and complex dialogues in my art.

 

It was while picking wildflowers during walks with my mom in Croatia that I discovered my ability to express the love I held in my heart. What started out as a connection to flowers soon became a never-ending way to communicate my passion through brushstrokes.

 

As layers of acrylic paint, pencil markings, and colorful forms take shape, the viewer is lifted in spirit and introduced to the endless promises of joy and happiness.

Betty Franks was born in Toronto, Canada, and raised in San Jose, California. She is a self-taught abstract artist who started painting when she turned 50. Although it seems late in life to take up painting, the timing was just right for her. After a long career in customer service management, she was ready to unleash her creative side.
