THE FATHER & SON TEAM OF MICHAEL AND EA ECKERMAN

MAKE UP ECKERMAN STUDIOS - A MULTI-MEDIA BLEND OF ART

MORE ABOUT MICHAEL

Michael Eckerman is a stonemason and artist whose creative nature has led him away from traditional design. For forty years, he has successfully incorporated fluid movement into the stonework of his fireplaces, garden hardscapes, water features, light sculptures, and the canine form (dogs). It is the blending of traditional and free-form style that makes his work unique.

Michael and his stonework are loved by the surfing community. He has built stone features for many of the world's great surfers. In the article by The Surfer's Journal, Michael tells a bit about the creative process of his work:

"Each project is different, but the forms come through with a similar telegraphing message: flowing harmony. The stone suggests its form, he says. There’s not a lot of planning in his projects, no detailed drawings, maybe some chalk lines sketched on a wall. A flagstone forms a bench in a barrel. A helix has two platforms on opposite sides of the spiral—one for you, another for your sweetie."

MORE ABOUT EA

Ea's paintings follow the line of the real and the abstract. The are often scientific in scope and surreal in form, color and presentation. As painting requires both imagination and work of the hand, Ea presents glimpses of the nature that surrounds us and brings into existence images of how nature exists in the artist's eye.

Leaving the North Shore of Oahu in 1989 to attend the University of California at Santa Cruz, Ea found himself exploring a new coastline and new habitat for creativity. He received a Fine Arts Degree in 1993 and settled in to a studio in Santa Cruz where he has been producing a large body of work.

Since then, his work has been shown throughout the state and his pieces are in collections across the nation, from New York to Hawaii.

Michael and Ea live and work out of their studio in Santa Cruz, CA but also travel the world researching and creating their art.
